Ozan Karaduman’s practice focuses on IT and Telecoms, Data Privacy and Corporate and M&A.
In IT and Telecoms, he has represented various major software and hardware companies, OTTs, social media companies and other online businesses in relation to the Turkish regulations applicable to them. He continuously makes analyses of the new technology operations of the clients to determine whether such operations require an authorization from the ICTA. He has assisted clients in obtaining authorizations from the ICTA and helped authorized operators to ensure the compliance of their operations with the complicated regulatory framework in the electronic communications sector. He advises online businesses in relation to the content restrictions and take-down requests. The issues he has advised also include spectrum requirements, encryption in electronic communication, VoIP, e-SIM regulations, IT outsourcing, numbering regulations, IPTV regulations and public procurement of IT services.
Ozan’s practice in data privacy started in 2008 by advising mostly technology companies in relation to the privacy requirements in Turkey. After the Data Protection Law was enacted in 2016, his practice extended to other sectors, including life sciences, automotive, advertisement and media. He has led various full compliance projects aimed to ensure the compliance of companies with the Data Protection Law. Within that context, he has prepared personal data inventories, privacy notices, consent forms, data storage and destruction policies, gave training to employees and provided day to day consultancy in relation to privacy issues. He advised both local and foreign companies, including some of the largest data-oriented businesses, in relation to new requirements under the Data Protection Law and made compliance analyses of specific operations of those companies. He assisted both local and foreign data controllers in registering with the online data controllers’ registry (VERBIS).
In Corporate and M&A, Ozan advised mostly foreign companies investing in Turkey. He represented foreign companies purchasing shares in Turkish entities, drafted and negotiated SPAs and SHAs, handled the closing and post-closing procedures. His negotiation skills and his result-oriented approach has been complimented in many deals by both parties to such deals. He has also assisted various foreign investors to establish solely owned companies and JVs in Turkey and helped them with the corporate governance issues.
Ozan’s practice covers not only advisory and transactional matters but also contentious issues. In addition to advising the clients in relation to Turkish legislation, drafting and negotiating their agreements, Ozan has also been assisting them both in domestic litigation and international arbitration.
Ozan graduated from Law Faculty of Galatasaray University in 2006. He speaks English, French (intermediate) and Turkish. He is the previous president of the Galatasaray University Alumni Association and a previous member of the Board of Galatasaray Education Foundation. He is a member of the IAPP and one of the previous co-chairs of the Istanbul KnowledgeNet Chapter.
